Elite Series: Incorporating
a blend of the features of the Katanas in the popular Classic Series
and those in the new Performance Series, the swords in the Elite
Series embody a careful blend of form and function. As in the Classic
Series, the swords have an upgraded standard of blade polish and
other refinements in detail while changes in blade design have
been introduced to enhance cutting performance. |

Performance
Series: CAS/Hanwei is proud to introduce the most significant
advancement in the katana line to date; the Performance Series.
Featuring four distinct blade variations (Iaito, Katana, XL,
and XL Light) each sword has been designed from the ground-up,
with blade geometry specially adapted to the needs of each
Japanese martial arts discipline. Currently offered in two
formats (Tori and Practical) with more to follow, the series
will feature a wide range of steels and furniture styles to
meet every budget. |

Classic Series: These
pieces from CAS/Hanwei have been the mainstay of their Samurai
sword line for a number of years and have redefined what is possible
in an affordable, historically accurate, and functional series
of swords. Now reborn as the "Classic" series and featuring
a higher standard of blade polish and other improvements in detail,
they remain at the forefront in the popularity of their Samurai
line.In both the "Forged Steel" and the "Forged-Folded
Steel" lines, the grip construction features genuine ray
skin covered wood, wrapped very tightly in the traditional pattern
to display the ray skin and the menuki. The tsuba are meticulously
crafted in traditional themes, which are repeated in the fuchi,
kashira, and menuki. The deeply lacquered wood scabbards have
authentic polished horn fittings. Protective bags and maintenance
kits are supplied with each piece. Blades in the "Forged
Steel" line are hand-forged from high-carbon steels. The
the "Forged-Folded Steel" line, the blades are hand
forged and folded from K120C Swedish powdered steel. The steel
manufacturing process provides an excellent dispersion of carbides,
resulting in a very tough steel with outstanding edge-holding
properties. The traditional clay-tempering process is used for
both lines, to produce an edge hardness of HRC 60 and a back
hardness of HRC 40. The hard edge provides an excellent cutting
capability, while the more resilient body of the blade allows
it to absorb the shock of the cutting stroke. After forging and
heat treating, each blade is hand polished revealing both the
hamon (temper line) and, in the case of the "Forged-Folded
Steel" line, the linear folding pattern. The katana in both
lines have long tangs and are fitted with two mekugi (bamboo
pegs) for greater security. |

| Practical: The
Japanese Practical Series represents our most popular sets, offering
excellent quality at an economical price. Each piece in the series
has a high-carbon steel blade and they are designed with the martial
artist in mind. This series is "practical" in every sense of the
word, functional blades that won't break the bank. |
|
|
Iaito: The
Iaito Series is a breakthrough in design & functionality. Made
of a special stainless, they are more durable than iaito made of
aluminum alloy. Steel feels more like a live blade and is not prone
to wobble when swung. Through a special tempering process the CAS/Hanwei
Iaito do not have the brittle behavior often associated with stainless
steel, but retain its low maintenance rust resistant qualities.
These very affordable iaito are the ideal training tools for safely
practicing the ancient art of Iaido. |
